Our Present

LaPorte Service League is involved in the community in three areas: Community Assistance, Community Outreach, and Arts Enrichment. LaPorte Service League is unique in that service projects are specific to the talents and passions of the membership

Community Assistance

Meals on Wheels                    Blankets for displaced children
Women’s Care Center Diaper Fund        Salvation Army Meals
County Home Bingo                      Salvation Army bell ringing

LPSL was awarded a grant to create fleece blankets that have been used to comfort at-risk children who are identified as being in challenging circumstances, such as sudden removal from their home. Blankets have been distributed at Handley Elementary, Kingsbury Elementary, Harmony House/CASA, and Dunebrook Child Advocacy Center.

Community Enrichment

Dental Project
Eye Screening
School Tutoring

The Tooth Fairy visited LaPorte preschool classrooms to teach children about proper oral hygiene. Thanks to a grant, each child was given a toothbrush, tube of toothpaste, flosser, and literature about keeping their teeth healthy.

Arts Enrichment

Annual Service League Children’s Play
LaPorte Symphony Children’s Concert
Scholarships

Members do everything from constructing the set to sewing the costumes to running the sound and light boards, not to mention acting in the annual play. Over 3,000 students enjoyed the 2014 production of “Peter and the Wolf”.
